Importance of Blood donation

Almost all serious health issues use blood donated by people like you and me to save lives. Blood, that is donated is useful at every 2 mins. Any amount of blood is necessary for the patients. Your blood could save a life. Not everyone can save a life. But you have an opportunity to. Don’t waste it! One cannot make blood, it is a gift we all have inside of us to give to those who are injured, sick or in need.

  • Blood donation improves your physical and mental health
  • Useful for early diagnosis of diseases (like viruses – hepatitis B, HIV1 & 2) reveals potential health problems

Eligibility for blood donation :

  1. Healthy and well: Donors must be in good health and feeling well.Free of colds,open cuts,cold sores and infections
  2. Adequqte Sleep: have a good night's sleep the night prior to donation
  3. Eat a Meal: eat a substantial meal 4 hours prior to donation
  4. Hydrate:Drink plenty of hydrating fluids(water/milk/juice) the day prior.day of after donation
  5. Age: Donors must be atleast 16 years old to donate with parent consent

Instruction to blood donors

Preparing to Donate Blood :

DO's:
  • Hydrate Drink plenty of water
  • Eat a healthy iron-rich meal
  • Bring your donor ID with you

DON'Ts:
  • Drink Alcohol
  • Eat fatty foods
  • Take aspirin before donating the platelets
