It is said that "Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible". Yet, many government schools in India still lack reliable access to libraries or even a quiet reading corner. National data shows that access to such facilities varies widely across states, leaving countless children underserved.
Athirai Rose, a 10th-grade student at Aga Khan Academy and an avid reader, has seen firsthand how books can transform curiosity into knowledge. She dreams of giving every child, especially those in government schools, the same opportunity to fall in love with reading and to open worlds for themselves.
Rose led a grassroots drive last year that raised funds for a library at ZPHS Padmashalipuram. Her effort mobilised local donors and students and raised ₹70,000 to buy books and set up shelving and seating for the school library. The success of that campaign showed how one student can spark a community to act.
Now Athirai wants to scale that impact. With your support, she will establish well-stocked libraries in four more schools, each one tailored to the needs of the students there.
