Science lives to discover the world, technology survives to bring science to people’s lives. When technology ceases to be for society, technology has no meaning at all. It becomes a redundant piece of work that some people spent a lifetime working on.

To protract the knowledge of remarkably skilled engineers to the roots of aam aadmi problems, we present events namely Dhiti and Bhagirath where in, an efficient, feasible technical solution has to be designed to curb the potential problems of our country.

Dhiti and Bhagirath are the national wide competitions conducted during the prestigious technical festivals called Apogee and Quark of BITS-Pilani campuses since past 3 years with a great participation from students across the country. Problem statements from various NGOs are collected and over a period of two and a half months, participants work on them with the help of the mentorship provided by the professors. The competition ends here, the idea doesn't. Efforts are made by students and NGOs to implement on the field, some of the most promising solutions. We are already at the stage of implementing three solutions out of eight received last year and expect to complete them soon.

Right from launching multiple satelites through indigenously developed launch vehicles to developing a Super Computer in house; India has achieved many heights in the developments of advanced technology. Even then, over 37.7 million people in India are affected by water-borne diseases due to contaminated drinking water supply. More than 60% of the people defecating open are Indians. There were at least 16,196 farmers' suicides in India in 2008, bringing the total since 1997 to 199,132. All this converges to the same point that India needs to concentrate more on the advancement of grass root Technologies addressing to the needs and problems of the 'Aam Admi' and poorest of the poor of this country.

With this motive Parishodh, an initiative of Nirmaan organization has been established. It is a platform that brings together technical expertise, young talent and resources at the universities; and grass-roots experience to find solutions to various social and environmental problems.

Vision

To drive a socio-economic change towards sustainable development in the country using science and technology as an enabling tool.

Mission

To create a highly talented and motivated workforce of engineers in the country who shall strive to take technology to the grassroots, and positively impact the lives of the underprivileged.
